Week 9 EOC: Things to do

In order to receive at least a 'B' in this class: I have to re-write my executive summary. Re-write part 2 which covers the company in a present situation. I must finish the management and personnel portion. Then finish sections 9 and above. I need to still get more business cards and be seen at a network event. I got this.

Week 9 BOC: Cyber Monday

It is Cyber Monday! today I found the best deal on Waves plug-in packages. I found the Diamond bundle, regularly $2500. I got it for $1249! That is 51% off! That is a great deal! Waves plug-ins are industry standard signal processing software. They sound amazing, and the Diamond bundle offers an immense variety of ways to make Rueca Records an even more legitimate studio. The bundle has everything from eq's and compressors to mastering multiband maximizers and noise cancelling software. It is by far the best deal I have seen this holiday season!

Week 7 EOC: What is the biggest challenge to finishing my business plan.

The biggest and only challenge that I have in this class is finding time to sit and do the work. I believe that I have a good concept for a business. Radio commercials are a very lacking part of advertising. I think they aren't very good. My company will be a viable solution to utilizing the radio and web for advertising purposes.
Finding time to complete the paperwork necessary for finishing this project will be extremely hard to do, but I will get it done. I intend on having many sleepless nights in the following weeks. The business plan project will be one of the many reasons that I will be working so hard. If there is any way to speed up the process I would have already done it.
It's funny how often a few days off can ruin the next week or month. I took a few days off last week, and it is apparent that I may have made my time even more saturated because I now have to play catch-up with school work. This will be my last quarter of school at The Art Institute of Las Vegas. It is time to make that statement true.

Week 5 EOC: Progress towards my Four Professional Contacts and Progress on Networking.

I have not made any progress on having the four professional contacts for class. I have had an attorney in the past, but cannot find his card. Otherwise my schedule has prevented me from being to go out and get the other business cards needed for this part of our final project. I do know that there is an insurance agent's office not too far from my house. In the next week I will go to that office, go to the bank, and get in touch with a lawyer to get the business cards for class.

Overall my net working is going well. I have started working at a local bar/live venue as the sound technician. I have made a professional connection with the former sound tech. It turns out that he has been a studio engineer for many country artists and has over 25 years of experience in the music industry. His knowledge is priceless and I look forward to learning and working with him in the future.

Week 3 EOC: Where are you now and where are you going?


My career is just barely beginning. As of today I have freelance experience in video editing, live audio engineering, and music mixing and mastering. I have held an internship at KTNV Channel 13 as a production assistant for The Morning Blend. I am a senior at the Art Institute of Las Vegas and expect to graduate in December. 

I am going to work in the film and music industries. My short-term goal is to advance my experience in live sound. I have worked at E-Strings bar and grill as the sound engineer for a three-month battle of the bands. Recently I started working as an on-call sound engineer at The Cheyenne Saloon. The Cheyenne Saloon attracts nearly every local band, and also many nationally touring bands. I plan to use my growing experience in live sound as a means to get a job that will sustain a lifestyle.

Simultaneously I plan to intern at as many studios as possible in order to get to my ultimate goal of being a music composer for visual media. Ultimately I want to become a film composer or work in music branding and advertising.  

EOC Week 2: Get Some Copyright Law Under Your Belt

http://copyright.gov/: This is the official US government site for anything that has to do with copyright law. It includes the exact text of U.S. copyright law which is title 17 in the United States Code. If I was to judge copyright law on the look of it's text then I would say that it is very serious. The exact text is very hard to understand. It contains short Latin phrases as well as legal language that is not meant to be understood by the average person. I do believe that the U.S. gov't did a good job at helping to secure the livelihood of artists by allowing their accomplishments to be protected in a legitimate manner. They state their stance on the purpose of copyright law in this statement found in the preface:
 "The Congress shall have Power…To promote the Progress of Science
and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors 
the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries."

http://www.benedict.com/: Benedict.com is a website that is a more useful source for broad legal understanding of copyright law. It is split up into four sections: movies, music, web, and info. I think they did a good job of making this knowledge accessible for all people to understand. It calls itself the "Copyright Website" and goes on to say "Welcome to the Copyright Website, the ultimate copyright portal for real world, practical copyright information. Launched on May Day 1995, the Copyright Website strives to lubricate the machinations of information delivery. As spice is to Dune, information is to the Web; the spice must flow."
My biggest issue is that I have no idea what Dune is, or why spice must flow. 


http://www.findlaw.com/: is the middle ground between average person and legal professional. They even have a tab at the top that asks is you are a legal professional. It is complete with a totally different site of legal professionals. It has a news bar so that you can keep up to date on all of the newest legal news. The whole site has a one-stop-shop feel. I especially liked the search engine especially for finding a lawyer in your area. I can see myself visiting this website for legal research again.
